Now that the Supreme Court has ruled against them, the Republican Arizona Legislature is looking at two solutions to try to win the game and put the redistricting process back in their hands.
Fire Mathis again
- This time come up with a better plan, since Governor Brewer stumbled when trying to explain why Mathis was originally fired.
Repeal Prop. 106
- Put it back on the ballot
- Let the voting occur when republicans are coming out for their primary so that there would be “primarily” republicans voting on it.
Redistricting is supposed to be non-partisan. How fair would the redistricting maps be if we let our current legislature decide the fate of redistricting?
Who would this benefit? The Voters?
As republicans are screaming unfair, realize that their solution will make it EXTREMELY UNFAIR!
Now it’s clear why all of this talk about repealing 106 was in lingering out there, and now it’s also clear how Brewer was able to get the backing of 20 republicans to fire Mathis.
